VC Dr. Baskota Raises Concerns over Low Budget's Impact on Higher Education and Research

During a program held today to celebrate the 51st anniversary of the Institute of Medicine in Maharajganj, the focus was placed on cultivating proficient professionals in the healthcare industry. The officials and professors highlighted that the individuals trained at the Maharajganj Medical Campus, established in 1972, are currently serving the general public through numerous hospitals across the country. They emphasized the importance of expanding its reach and delivering high-quality healthcare services to meet evolving needs.

On that occasion, Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr. Dharmakanta Baskota, of Tribhuvan University expressed that despite continuous efforts in research and staff development, the necessary budget and manpower allocation for the largest and most prominent university in the country has not been addressed adequately. He pointed out the issue of the university not being able to increase staff appointments and promotions without the approval of the Government of Nepal, citing a case currently being heard in court, which has resulted in vacant positions and hindered the appointment and promotion process for university employees for over a year.

Prof. Dr. Dibya Singh Shah, the Dean of the Institute of Medicine, highlighted that the teaching hospital, which initially began with 22 students and 301 beds, has now expanded nationwide. He emphasized the ongoing endeavors to offer the general public access to quality education in these teaching hospitals.

Prof. Dr. Abhimanyu Jha, Assistant Dean, expressed that as a recognized and affiliated campus of the Institute of Medicine, their institution is actively producing doctors, nurses, and other medical professionals with specialized expertise throughout the nation to meet the country's healthcare requirements.

During the event, esteemed individuals including Prof. Dr. Arjun Lamichhane and Suresh Uprety, the Head of Maharajgunj Medical Campus, addressed the leadership and emphasized the importance of enhancing staff morale, ensuring stability, and improving service facilities.
