The resignation of Prof. Dr. Keshar Jung Baral, Vice-Chancellor of Tribhuvan University (TU), has been approved on April 10, 2025. The Prime Minister's Secretariat has informed that Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, who is also the Chancellor of TU, approved Vice-Chancellor Baral's resignation on Thursday.
Baral's resignation was approved 12 days after it was submitted. Professors close to him claim that Baral was forced to resign due to the Prime Minister's interference and the government's lack of cooperation. Baral has stated that he resigned because there was no conducive working environment and has been saying that he will reveal the detailed reasons after his resignation is finalized.
Appointed on merit for a four-year term on February 22, 2024, he was forced to resign after just 13 months. Even at the time of his appointment, Baral had been saying that he was not the Vice-Chancellor to hold a job and that he would resign if the working environment became untenable. He had committed to implementing the plan and concept paper he had presented to the government to become Vice-Chancellor.
Baral was caught in the interview with Edusanjal to discuss his vision for the university's future. During the conversation, he outlined strategies to safeguard the institution's reputation, which has experienced a decline. Find the video here:
