Tribhuvan University (TU) students and faculty members will now be eligible for treatment services at federal hospitals and medical institutions across Nepal, following an agreement between the Ministry of Health and Population and TU.

The agreement was signed in the presence of Health and Population Minister Pradeep Paudel and TU Vice-Chancellor Dr. Khagda KC at the Ministry. Under the arrangement, treatment services at all federal hospitals and institutions will be provided based on a cost-sharing model—90% will be covered by TU’s Medical Treatment Fund, and the remaining 10% will be borne by the individual.

The agreement also states that TU will encourage its faculty members and students to enroll in the national health insurance program. During the event, Minister Paudel emphasized that the government has already decided to bring everyone in the organized sector under health insurance coverage, and urged TU to enroll all its members in the scheme as soon as possible. He expressed confidence that TU would complete the necessary groundwork soon.

Minister Paudel also highlighted that efforts are being made to strengthen the health insurance program through increased resources and policy reforms. He added that the inclusion of TU’s students and faculty in the scheme would send a positive message to the wider community.

Health Secretary Dilliram Sharma expressed confidence that the agreement would be implemented effectively. Meanwhile, TU Vice-Chancellor Dr. Khagda KC stated that preliminary work has already begun to include students and faculty in the health insurance program, and that a task force would be formed to oversee the process. He further mentioned that TU and the Ministry plan to strengthen cooperation in both education and healthcare moving forward.
