KATHMANDU, June 17, 2026 — Tribhuvan University (TU) has issued a stern directive to professors and staff members who have failed to return to university service after completing their study leave, instructing them to come into contact with the university within 15 days.

The TU Study Leave Management Implementation Committee released a public notice on Wednesday, calling upon all faculty and staff who have not returned to service as per university regulations—or who left their positions without completing the mandatory tenure—to report to the committee’s office immediately.

The notice explicitly states that those who fail to report within the stipulated 15-day deadline will face legal action in accordance with their signed bond agreements and university regulations.

Efforts to Recover Funds Underway

According to the university, this initiative—spearheaded by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology in coordination with TU—has already resulted in the recovery of over NPR 118.4 million from 50 professors who had previously failed to return to their duties after their study leave.

Misuse of Study Leave Impacts Academics

Tribhuvan University emphasizes that study leave is a special provision granted with the express purpose of cultivating skilled, research-oriented, and globally competent academic manpower. However, the university expressed deep concern that the misuse of this privilege by certain faculty members has resulted in significant financial, educational, and academic losses for the institution.

Reiterating its commitment to institutional accountability, the university clarified that it will continue its aggressive recovery process to ensure that all professors who have utilized study leave fulfill their contractual service obligations.

For those who have still not made contact, this notice has been published as a reminder to contact the committee's office or reach out via studyleave@tu.edu.np within 15 (fifteen) days from the publication date of this notice. Moreover, it also informs that legal action will be initiated in accordance with the rules and the bond agreement signed with the university.
