Tribhuvan University's Business Incubation Center (TUBIC) has launched an initiative aimed at bridging the gap between academic research and business. In an effort to drive innovation and promote commercial success, TUBIC has begun working in collaboration with central departments and institutes across the university to link various forms of research with entrepreneurial opportunities.
On June 5, 2025, the center organized a workshop that brought together coordinators and focal persons from incubation centers operating within central departments, institutes, and constituent campuses. The workshop focused on fostering an innovation ecosystem within the university, according to the center’s director, Prof. Dr. Tara Prasad Bhusal.
Prof. Bhusal stated that the center’s mission is to develop a comprehensive blueprint outlining the structure, coordination, and collaboration required to convert academic research into marketable products and services. He noted that participants at the workshop unanimously agreed on the importance of institutionalizing a culture of innovation within the university.
TUBIC aims to provide support for idea generation, enterprise development, prototype creation, and protection of intellectual property rights. Prof. Bhusal added that the center will help scale businesses that harness academic expertise to improve both lifestyle and professional outcomes.
The event was attended by the university's Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Khadga KC, and former Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Shivlal Bhusal, among other notable figures. In his remarks, former Vice Chancellor Bhusal stressed the urgent need to transform research papers, which often remain unused in university archives, into practical, market-driven products.
Participants also highlighted the need for coordinated efforts at the policy and program levels among universities, the University Grants Commission, and all tiers of government to support and accelerate the innovation journey.
