Students at Tribhuvan University (TU) have taken to the streets, initiating a series of protests against persistent delays in the university's examination processes. The demonstrations, which commenced on December 27, are being led by Shyamraj Ojha, the president of the Free Student Union (FSU) at the TU Central Campus in Kirtipur.
The crux of the student movement centers around their deep frustration with the chronic delays in examinations and subsequent certificate issuance, posing a significant hurdle to their academic progression. In addition to this, the protests underscore the urgent need for an overhaul in the university's administrative and examination control systems.
Students participating in the demonstration at the Controller of Examinations Office in Balkhu, Kirtipur, called for improvements in TU's age-old system. Their demands encompassed avoiding the politicization of the university, implementing a comprehensive academic calendar, ensuring timely revenue clearance, and efficient distribution of certificates.
Shyamraj Ojha expressed grave concerns during the demonstration, accusing TU authorities, including the Chancellor and Prime Minister, of displaying indifference to the university's issues beyond political interests. He specifically highlighted the sluggishness in filling vacant positions of Vice-Chancellor and professors, warning that unless prompt efforts for improvement are made, the situation at Tribhuvan University could further deteriorate, jeopardizing the future of thousands of students.
