In response to recent speculations, Tribhuvan University (TU) has refuted claims of immediate plans to shorten the duration of its bachelor's degree programs. Prof. Dr. Dharmakanta Baskota, Vice-Chancellor of the university, emphasized that no such changes are being implemented in the near future.
The prevailing rumors suggested that TU was considering reducing the graduation period, currently spanning four years in the annual system and eight semesters in the semester system. However, during an exclusive interview with Edusanjal, Vice-Chancellor Baskota clarified that he was not in favor of altering the current duration of the graduation programs.
Information Officer Yogendra Prasad Dahal confirmed that any adjustments to the annual and semester system would necessitate a comprehensive revision of the curriculum across all faculties and subjects. Although the topic has been addressed in policy and program discussions, no concrete plans for implementation have been formulated or discussed yet.
It is noteworthy that TU had already introduced a four-year bachelor's program in the Faculty of Management starting from the academic year 2071-72 BS. Currently, the university is only in the third year of the four-year program for the humanities and social sciences faculty, with students at this level currently undergoing their third-year examinations.
In light of the challenges posed by the pandemic and a shortage of human resources, the university has acknowledged instances of irregularities in examination conduct and result publication. However, Vice-Chancellor Baskota assured that proactive measures are being taken to address these issues and enhance the overall efficiency of the examination system.
