The Times Higher Education (THE) has recently published its 2024 World University Rankings. This assessment involved examining a wealth of information, including 134 million research citations from 16.5 million research publications and survey responses from 68,402 experts from around the world. They collected data from 2,673 universities, totaling 411,789 data points.
The University of Oxford in the United Kingdom still holds the top spot for the eighth year in a row. However, there have been changes in the top five. Stanford University now stands at second place, and Harvard University is in fourth position.
Nepal's ranking has declined this year, with Tribhuvan University making the list in a lower position than before. Other universities of Nepal have not yet made it to THE's World University Rankings. This marks the sixth consecutive year that Tribhuvan University has been featured in these rankings, now situated within the 1201-1500 range.
Tribhuvan University first appeared in the rankings in 2019, within the 801-1000 range. It reappeared in 2020 with a lower position and then improved to a position between 801 and 1000 in 2021. It maintained that position in 2022 but has now dropped to the 1201-1500 bracket in this year's rankings.
In India, the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) in Bengaluru holds the highest ranking among Indian universities. It is now placed between 201 and 250, an improvement from the previous year when it was in the 251-300 range.
The United States has the most universities represented on the list, with 169 institutions, including 56 in the top 200. India ranks fourth with 91 universities, surpassing China, which has 86.
In addition to the 1,904 universities with rankings, an additional 769 universities are listed as "reporters." These universities provided data but did not meet the criteria for inclusion in the ranking.
THE's 2024 World University Rankings cover 1,904 universities across 108 countries and regions, making it the largest and most diverse university ranking to date.
