Kathmandu, Dec 4 (RSS): The student enrollment rate at the country's oldest varsity, Tribhuvan University, which significantly dwindled in the past, has been slightly improving in the recent years. It is said that with the introduction of new subjects, the enrollment rate has increased by two per cent in the past three years.
According to TU Planning Directorate Chief Prof Dr Rhidish Kumar Pokhrel, the TU witnessed the fall in the enrollment rate especially in the Faculty of Humanities for the three straight academic sessions from the 2069-70 BS, but with the introduction of new disciplines, the rate is gradually improving.
In the academic calendar 2071-72 BS, a total of 298,990 students were enrolled at the TU and this number increased to 360,254 in the year 2072-73 BS. The rate is on the rise since then.
According to Dean of Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences Prof Dr Shiba Lal Bhusal, Conflict, Peace and Development Studies; International Relations and Diplomacy; Social Work, Counseling Psychology, Sports Science; Tourism and Hospitality in Master's degree and Bachelor of Computer Application (BCA) and Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) are fresh disciplines introduced by the TU.
Student enrollment for particularly Nepali, History and Linguistics has decreased. However, the Faculty of Management continues to draw a good number of students due to introduction of new subjects as per the need of time. Enrollment of women students has increased of late at TU and the latest data shows that women student enrollment has gone up by 34 per cent in the recent years.
