Sita Khanal, residing in Ghorahi Sub-Metropolitan Municipality-15, has recently celebrated her 44th birthday. Despite being married while still in fifth grade, her aspiration for education remained unfulfilled. However, now she is pursuing her education with determination, currently attending grade 7 at Shree Secondary School, Rajhena, located in Ghorahi-18.
Reflecting on her journey, she expressed, "I never had the opportunity to study and write earlier. But now, I am actively engaged in learning alongside my peers' children and dedicated teachers. The encouragement from my teachers, peers, and family has significantly facilitated my progress."
In her early school days, Sita used to feel timid and apprehensive, but now she confidently shares her experiences.
Her motivation to study stems not merely from a desire to earn a livelihood but also from a quest to make her life more fulfilling. Enrolling in grade 6 two years ago marked a significant step towards this goal. Achieving good grades in class 6 fueled her determination further.
"Despite attempting to pursue studies after marriage, domestic responsibilities posed challenges. However, after a prolonged period, my passion for learning has reignited. Now, with unwavering support from my two sons and husband, I am able to pursue my studies consistently," she elaborated.
Previously, societal norms discouraged girls from pursuing education. However, attitudes have evolved, and now, witnessing adults returning to education is met with curiosity rather than criticism. Sita finds joy in balancing her studies with household chores, affirming that age should not restrict one's desire to learn.
Being addressed as 'Aunty' by her classmates brings her joy, symbolizing acceptance and camaraderie despite starting her educational journey later in life.
Sunita Sharma, one of Sita's teachers, commends her aptitude for learning and understanding. She believes Sita's discipline and dedication will positively influence the classroom environment. Sita is determined to complete her education, aiming to graduate from grade 12 with consistent effort and perseverance.
