School Adjustments Implemented in Kavre District Amid Declining Student Numbers

As the new academic session (2081) commences, schools in Kavre district are undergoing adjustments to accommodate decreasing student enrollment. Local authorities have initiated a process to reorganize schools based on geographical proximity, aiming to optimize resources and educational quality.

According to a report compiled by the School Monitoring and Supervision Committee, formed by the municipality, adjustments are being made in collaboration with village education committees and rural municipalities. In Roshi rural municipality alone, five schools have been subject to consolidation measures.

Ram Bahadur Tamang, the chief administrative officer of the village, confirmed that adjustments were made in accordance with recommendations from the School Monitoring and Supervision Committee. Notably, schools such as Thedachaur Primary School and Chetna Secondary School have merged to form Thedachaur Chetna Secondary School. Similar adjustments have been made to other schools across different wards in the municipality.

The rationale behind these adjustments lies in optimizing resources and improving educational standards. By consolidating schools, authorities aim to ensure better utilization of infrastructure and teaching staff. Moreover, the merged schools will now operate child development centers to enhance early childhood education.

In total, 64 out of 69 public schools in Roshi rural municipality have undergone adjustments, with the decision guided by criteria set by the federal government's School Adjustment Base Committee. The restructuring also involved reducing the levels of certain schools, allowing them to focus on teaching classes from grades 1 to 3.

Dinesh Lama, the village chairman, emphasized the importance of considering both student numbers and geographical factors in these adjustments. Schools with low enrollment have been merged with nearby institutions, with a view to maintaining educational accessibility while rationalizing resources.

Beyond Roshi rural municipality, similar adjustments have been observed in neighboring areas. In Banepa Municipality-4, Srishtakanta Basic School and Chandeshwari Secondary School have merged to form Chandeshwari Srishtikanta Secondary School, following decisions from the Ward Education Committee.

These efforts reflect a proactive approach by local authorities to address challenges posed by declining student numbers, ensuring the sustainability and quality of education in the region.
