Scholarship Quota Issue Resolved for Nepali Medical Students in Bangladesh

The longstanding issue of Nepali medical students being excluded from the final list for scholarships in Bangladesh has been resolved. The Bangladesh government addressed the problem by sending an official letter to the Nepalese government, approving the admission of the eight students who had been previously left out.

This resolution follows the recommendation of the Medical Education Commission, which had initially nominated 22 Nepali students—19 for MBBS and 3 for BDS programs—to study in Bangladesh under a special quota provided by the Bangladeshi government. Despite this, only 12 students were included in the final list.

The situation was rectified after Education, Science, and Technology Minister Sumana Shrestha discussed it with the Bangladeshi ambassador to Nepal. The minister’s private secretariat confirmed that Minister Shrestha had personally communicated with the concerned students, extending her best wishes for their academic journey in Bangladesh.

The prompt diplomatic intervention and cooperation between the Nepalese and Bangladeshi governments have effectively resolved the scholarship quota issue. This ensures that all qualified Nepali students can proceed with their medical education as intended, highlighting the strong bilateral commitment to educational opportunities and international collaboration.
