Damauli-based Satyawati Secondary School has emerged as a shining example of a community school that has successfully implemented effective management and scientific teaching methods. Currently, the school accommodates an impressive count of 2,701 students. Recently, one of its own, Aanchal Sigdel, a student at the school since nursery, achieved remarkable success by securing the top position in the district with a GPA of 3.95 in the Secondary Education Examination (SEE). Karun Raj Kafle, the Chairman of the School Management Committee, revealed this achievement. Addressing allegations that the school merely admits students from private schools to ensure excellent results, Kafle emphasized that even the students studying in the same institution face immense pressure despite becoming district toppers.
Kafle elaborated on the challenges faced in maintaining the school's exceptional standards. Due to a lack of a playground and physical infrastructure, the school faces limitations in accommodating all students. This year, they had to readmit numerous students who were initially unable to secure admission due to the limited seats. Consequently, the school has implemented entrance exams to select students, creating a more competitive environment. Additionally, Kafle highlighted the need for improved physical facilities to meet the growing demand.
To enhance teaching effectiveness, Principal Pushpakala Bhattarai outlined several measures the school took. These include introducing smart boards in all classrooms, providing internet connectivity, motivating teachers, organizing separate classes for students needing additional support, and conducting regular parent meetings. Bhattarai expressed the school's ambition to compete nationally, solidifying its commitment to providing high-quality education.
The school management informed us about the distribution of sections across different grades. Currently, there are seven sections in Grades 9 and 10, eight in Grade 8, four in Grade 7, and three in Grade 6. Notably, Satyawati Secondary School is known for its exceptional education standards, prompting students from Damouli who study elsewhere to transfer back to the school. Assistant Principal Anil Shrestha, who supports students in Damouli, Gorkha, Lamjung, and Kaski districts, emphasized the school's status as the first school in Nepal in 2070 BS. With more than 80% of students consistently passing the SLC examination for three consecutive years, the school has been recognized as a model institution. The school has achieved the first position four times in Gandaki Province.
While the school offers technical education, it has also experienced a significant increase in student enrollment. Since 2068 BS, Satyawati Secondary School has provided a science stream in Grades 11 and 12. Additionally, computer engineering is provided as a vocational subject from Grades 9 to 12. The Ministry of Education's decision on Ashadh 25, 2074 BS, has selected Satyawati Secondary School for development and management as a model school.
