Saroj Tamang, a hotel management trainer, highlighted that most hotel and restaurant staff in the country acquire their skills through hands-on experience rather than formal education. According to Tamang, the increasing attraction of students towards HM is attributed to the demand for educated professionals by modern and large hotels, where theoretical and practical knowledge is essential, especially for welcoming international guests.
Tamang pointed out that the development of new tourist areas and the establishment of large hotels and restaurants in Nepal have heightened the demand for trained manpower. He emphasized that those studying hotel management are sought after in various capacities, from small to large hotels and restaurants.
The appeal of studying hotel management has grown not only for local employment opportunities but also for the potential to work abroad. Tamang highlighted the high demand for hotel management graduates in Western countries. He mentioned that after completing the course, individuals can pursue careers in aviation, tourism, travel, and HM colleges, opening doors to department head positions.
Hari Thapalia, Head of the Management Faculty for the National Examination Board at Oxford College, noted a consistent increase in the number of students enrolling in class 11 hotel management courses each year. He pointed out that students choosing hotel management may also have the opportunity to become self-employed and open their own hotels or restaurants, given the skills acquired during their studies.
Premhari Subedi, the principal of Eden Garden Secondary School, another educational institution offering hotel management, added that the growing interest of students in hotel management has led to an increase in educational institutions providing courses in this field. The rise in the number of high-class hotels and the demand for trained manpower has further fueled the students' attraction to hotel management.
