Proposal to Launch Himalayan Studies in Tribhuvan University

An expert team of Tribhuvan University (TU) led by the Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Hira Bahadur Maharjan along with Executive Director of International Relation Prof. Dr. Balmukunda Bhandari and Chief of Department of Botany Prof. Dr. Pramod Kumar Jha has visited the University of Padavo, Italy.

During a week-long visit (July 18-25, 2014), the two universities have made an agreement to organize a seminar in February in Kathmandu. The Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Hira Bahadur Maharjan on behalf of the TU team met Gianumberto Caravello, Advisor of the Rector, University of Pavado, Italy. The team has visited Vice-Rector of the Department of International Relation Alessandra Martin and HoD of many other departments and conducted faculty meetings. The University of Padavo has proposed to launch Himalayan Studies in Nepal. 

The University of Padavo, Italy and Tribhuvan University, Nepal have already signed the agreement to establish the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to the terms of cooperation for scientific research and educational activities in the subjects of common interest that include mobility of academic staff and researches, doctoral candidates and students for academic activities and participation in seminars.

This agreement has accessed between the two universities to exchange of information and biographic materials, sharing of know-how about high complex technical-scientific sets, higher education extension activities including the mobility of technical, administrative and librarian staff connected to these goals. The participants in the activities foreseen in the Memorandum are being selected on the basis of merit without regard to race, national or ethnic origin, color, religion, age, gender, material status, physical disabilities, or sexual orientation.

Each University has already appointed its own representative for coordination and monitoring namely Prof. Gianumberto Caravello, Asvisor of the Rector, University of Pavado and Prof. Dr. Pramod Kumar Jha, Tribhuvan University. For the activities with economic effects, the universities will jointly arrange the property rights and their protection as per their own rules. The Memorandum shall be effective for five years from the latest signature date April 17, 2012.

Before this exchange visit, the fourteen experts from TU including two research scholars have already visited the University of Padavo, Italy.
