Gopal Bahadur Mahat, the principal of Prolific Secondary School located in Dhumbarahi, Kathmandu, has been apprehended on accusations of aiding a student to appear for the Class 12 examination under false pretenses. This incident has stirred controversy and raised concerns about the integrity of the examination process.
According to reports from the District Police Office in Kathmandu, suspicions arose after it was alleged that Mahat facilitated an impostor to sit for the Class 12 exam. Investigations revealed that not only one but at least four individuals might have used fraudulent means to participate in the examination at Prolific School.
The Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology took swift action by notifying the Ministry of Home Affairs, requesting scrutiny of four specific individuals along with their symbol numbers. Following this, a thorough investigation ensued, revealing a troubling discovery. During the course of the inquiry initiated by the Home Ministry, it was found that one examinee's registration form and admission card contained a photograph of another individual.
Authorities at the District Police Office disclosed that two individuals implicated in the fraudulent scheme are believed to be associates of Mahat. Presently, Mahat remains in police custody in Maharajgunj, as investigations into the matter continue.
The Class 12 examinations, which commenced on Baisakh 14, have been ongoing, but this incident has cast a shadow over the integrity of the examination process, prompting authorities to take decisive action to maintain the sanctity of the education system.
