Police Launches Cybercrime Awareness Campaign in Okhaldhunga Schools

In an effort to reduce cybercrime, the Okhaldhunga District Police has initiated a community awareness campaign targeting secondary-level students across the district. The campaign aims to spread awareness about cyber safety through students, recognizing their role in educating families and communities.

The initiative officially began at Jalpa Secondary School, located in Siddhicharan Municipality-11, and is set to be expanded to schools in all local levels of the district. According to Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Madan KC, the campaign is designed to educate students from Grades 9 to 12 about various forms of cybercrime, preventive measures, and relevant legal provisions.

“Incidents of cybercrime are increasing even in rural areas in new and complex forms. This campaign is our effort to address that challenge by informing students, who can then serve as messengers within their communities,” said DSP KC.

The awareness sessions include guidance on avoiding online scams, protecting personal information on social media, using strong and secure passwords, and staying cautious of suspicious content.

Bechan Adhikari, a teacher at Jalpa Secondary School, remarked that the program has had a noticeable impact on students’ understanding of cyber safety and will contribute to a safer digital environment. He stressed the importance of such education, particularly for adolescents who are increasingly active online.

Previously, the Okhaldhunga police had also conducted school-based awareness programs on child marriage prevention and drug abuse control.
