PM Dahal Unveils Ambitious Reforms for Medical and Nursing Education

Addressing long-standing challenges in medical and nursing education, Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal "Prachanda" announced on January 22, a comprehensive reform package. The announcement, made during a high-profile discussion at the Prime Minister's Office in Singha Durbar, specifically targeted issues plaguing the nursing sector.

One of the primary concerns discussed was the jurisdictional conflict between nursing education and the Council for Technical Education and Vocational Training (CTEVT). The Prime Minister acknowledged the need for clarity in this matter, emphasizing the resolution of disputes to streamline educational pathways for nursing professionals.

To tackle these issues systematically, Prime Minister Dahal called for an immediate meeting of the Medical Education Commission (MEC). His proposal included the formation of a study committee and the involvement of the National Planning Commission, highlighting a strategic approach to reform.

Furthermore, the Prime Minister underscored the necessity of amending existing acts to overcome legal hurdles obstructing the implementation of reforms in medical and nursing education. He stressed the importance of creating a work schedule based on available resources.

The meeting brought together key figures from various sectors, including Deputy Prime Minister Purna Bahadur Khadka, Narayan Kaji Shrestha, Minister of Education, Science and Technology Ashok Kumar Rai, and Chief Secretary to the Government of Nepal Dr. Baikunth Aryal. The collaborative effort included officials such as the Secretaries of the Prime Minister's Office, Secretary of the Ministry of Education Suresh Adhikari, and Registrar of Nursing Council Shukla Khanal.
