People's Campus Celebrates Its 42nd Anniversary

People's Campus in Paknajol, Kathmandu, celebrated its 42nd anniversary on December 23, 2023, Monday.  In addition to honoring the institution's lengthy history in Nepal's educational system, this event raised important issues regarding the country's higher education system's future.

Educational leaders gathered to share key insights during the event. Vice-Chancellor Bhola Thapa of Kathmandu University, serving as the chief guest, addressed concerns about the increasing exodus of Nepali students. Despite acknowledging the challenges, Thapa maintained an optimistic outlook, emphasizing that the current situation is daunting but not disheartening.

Thapa stressed the persistent need for quality higher education in Nepal, citing the country's literacy rates. He underscored the enduring importance of higher education institutions, even amidst five decades of political transition that have impacted the education sector. Additionally, Thapa informed the audience about Kathmandu University's global outreach, with initiatives such as offering yoga classes in India and plans to expand academic reach to Sydney, Australia, and Hong Kong.

Pramodaraj Sharma, president of People's Campus Professors' Association, shed light on the campus's collective approach to problem-solving. According to Sharma, challenges faced by the campus are addressed collectively, ensuring comprehensive and effective solutions. He also highlighted the campus's strong emphasis on research education, mentioning the establishment of an investigation cell dedicated to fostering research activities. Sharma pointed out that the significant number of students enrolled at People's Campus reflects its robust appeal and academic strength compared to other institutions.
