Students will no longer be required to take entrance examinations to enroll in any programs under the Council for Technical Education and Vocational Training (CTEVT). Instead, admissions will now be based on the Grade Point Average (GPA) obtained in SEE or SLC examinations at the secondary level, or in the relevant certificate-level programs.
In the past, CTEVT admitted students based on entrance exam scores. However, starting this academic session, students will be admitted based on the GPA they earned in their SEE or certificate-level exams.
According to Umesh Mishra, the Controller of Examinations at CTEVT, students can now enroll in any program under CTEVT without having to sit for an entrance exam. He stated, “Students will no longer need to appear in entrance exams for any CTEVT programs.” The decision to base admissions on GPA was made to address negative rumors and concerns surrounding the previous entrance examination process.
Mishra mentioned that some institutions offering preparatory classes were allegedly charging students fees under the pretext of helping them pass the entrance exams. With this new system in place, such issues are expected to be resolved.
The 207th meeting of the CTEVT, held on Baisakh 26, 2082, under the chairmanship of Minister for Education, Science and Technology, Mr. Raghuji Pant, decided to change the admission process structure.
CTEVT has implemented the Trainee Selection, Scholarship Distribution, and Admission Directives 2082 for pre-diploma, diploma, and certificate-level programs. These directives provide for a merit list to be prepared based on students’ average GPA scores from the SEE exams.
As per the new policy, students who completed SEE or SLC from public or community schools will receive an additional score of 1.0, while those from institutional (private) schools will receive an additional 0.85.
There are over 400 colleges affiliated with CTEVT across the country, including 63 constituent campuses and institutions. Over 25,000 new students are admitted to these colleges each year, according to Controller Mishra.
CTEVT has also introduced an online form submission system for student applications. Constituent and affiliated private campuses will assist students in filling out these online forms.
Saroj Dhakal, Executive Chairman of Shree Chitwan College (formerly Shree Medical and Technical College) located in Gondrang, Bharatpur-12, said that the removal of entrance exams has made the process more convenient for students. He stated that this change eliminates unnecessary manipulation and ensures that students with good academic scores are given priority.
He also shared that his college offers free counseling services to aspiring students and provides support for online form submissions directly from the college. “Students wishing to enroll in any CTEVT programs can come to our college and fill out their forms here,” he added.
For the academic session 2082/083, Shree Chitwan College is offering programs such as Diploma in Pharmacy (D. Pharmacy), General Medicine (HA), Lab Technician (CMLT), and Diagnostic Radiography.
Shree Chitwan College is a sister institution of Shree College of Technology, which has long been offering health science programs in Chitwan. The college also operates its own 100-bed National City Hospital. Chairman Dhakal emphasized that the college is well-equipped with modern infrastructure in central Bharatpur and conducts teaching-learning activities using multimedia and experienced instructors.
He stated, “At our college, we provide both theoretical and practical (hands-on) classes using modern techniques taught by skilled and experienced faculty members.” According to him, graduates from the college are readily finding employment both within Nepal and abroad.
Previously, many consultancies used to offer preparatory classes for CTEVT entrance exams, which added financial burdens on students. There were also increasing complaints that some consultancies were charging students extra money with false assurances of securing admission. In response to these concerns, CTEVT has restructured the admission process.
