KATHMANDU — For the first time, the  Nepal Medical Council (NMC) has officially released the comprehensive results of its  Medical Licensing Examination (NMCLE) conducted from May 26 to May 29, 2026 (Jestha 12–15, 2083). The data highlights a sharp contrast in pass rates between medical students who graduated within Nepal and those who pursued their degrees abroad.

According to the official data released by Acting Registrar Dr. Dipendra Pandey, a total of 1,837 candidates appeared for the MBBS licensing exam, yielding an overall pass rate of 63.50%. 

For the BDS stream, 434 students registered, achieving a significantly higher combined pass rate of 81.52%.

Domestic Medical Colleges vs. International Medical Colleges 

The statistics reveal that domestic medical/dental colleges continue to produce much higher licensing success rates.

  • MBBS: Out of 1,254 candidates who studied in Nepal, 963 passed, marking a strong 76.79% success rate. Conversely, students returning with degrees from foreign nations struggled. For instance, out of 133 candidates from China, only 20 passed (15.04%). Bangladesh, which fielded the highest number of foreign-returnee candidates (367), saw a pass rate of 41.14% (151 passed).

  • BDS: The trend mirrored in dentistry, where domestic graduates secured an impressive 85.75% pass rate (343 out of 400). Meanwhile, only 1 out of 17 India-educated dental candidates managed to pass, registering a low 5.88% success rate.

Top Performing Domestic Medical/Dental Colleges

In the MBBS category, Chitwan Medical College led the chart with a 93.10% pass rate, closely followed by the B.P. Koirala Institute of Health Sciences (BPKIHS) at 92.21%, and the Nepalese Army Institute of Health Sciences at 89.77%.

Among the institutions within Nepal, Gandaki Medical College achieved a perfect 100% pass rate in the BDS stream with all 12 of its candidates passing. Other standout performers in dentistry included Nepal Medical College (97.37%) and K.U. School of Medical Sciences (95.35%).

On the lower end of the spectrum, M.B. Kedia Dental College saw a 0% pass rate in the BDS program with all 13 of its candidates failing the examination, while Nobel Medical College and National Medical College recorded the lowest MBBS pass rates among domestic institutions at roughly 54%.
