NMC Clarifies Registration Process for Foreign Medical Students in Nepal

The Nepal Medical Council (NMC) has issued a notice clarifying the registration process for foreign nationals who are looking to study medicine and dentistry in Nepal. This announcement comes in response to questions raised by foreign students, parents, media, and other agencies regarding how complex the NMC registration process is.

Thus, the NMC explained that foreign students enrolling in undergraduate or postgraduate medical/dental programs (MBBS/BDS/MD/MDS) under the foreign category must meet all requirements set by the relevant regulatory authorities in Nepal.

The NMC stated that foreign medical practitioners are registered according to regulation 21 (f), which mandates a "good standing certificate" from the applicant's country of origin's regulatory body. The NMC also highlighted that students graduating from colleges within Nepal are eligible to take the licensing examinations conducted by the NMC, as per regulation 20 (e) 3.a.

The notice further stated that foreign physicians practicing in Nepal must comply with all provisions outlined in the NMC Act & Regulations, as well as the Labor Act & Regulations.

In a significant clarification, the NMC confirmed that while non-Nepali citizens can register as foreign doctors, this registration category is distinct and clarifies that they will not be treated as similar to Nepali graduates.
