Newly appointed Vice-chairman of Higher Secondary Education Board (HSEB), Prof Chaitanya Sharma, has pledged to take steps to streamline higher secondary sector.

Speaking to the National News Agency (RSS), Sharma underlined plans to address the internal problems of the Board to make it efficient while ramping up the monitoring works.

“We will focus on strictly enforcing the current act and regulations and implementing the code of conduct effectively,” he said. He also spoke of plans to broach a proposal for recognising 9 to 12 grade as secondary education while creating an integrated examination board in grade 12.

HSEB had remained without officials since September 5. A total of 3,500 higher secondary schools — private and community schools combined — are currently operating in the country.

The meeting of the Council of Ministers on March 19 had taken the decision to appoint Sharma as HSEB Vice Chairman and Narayan Prasad Koirala as Member-Secretary. Koirala has already served as the chief of HSEB Planning Division. The Education Minister remains the Board’s ex-officio Chairperson.
