Nepalese students have spent nearly Rs 56.83 billion rupees on foreign education in the first six months of the current fiscal year, according to a report of Nepal Rastra Bank. This indicates the increasing trend on outflow of Nepali currency for foreign studies although the outflow currency in the same period last year was declined by Rs 2 billion.
As per the report, an outflow of the currency in the name of education is on the rise, although it has decreased by more than 2 billion compared to the same period last year.
In the previous year, an amount of Rs 58.95 billion was spent on foreign studies. During the review period, travel expenditure under the service account was surged by 9.7 % to reach 101.92 billion rupees which was up from 92.81 billion in the corresponding period of 2023/24.
In the review period, net service income recorded a deficit by Rs 43.53 billion in the first six months of 2024/25 while the income in same period of the previous year remained Rs 35.43 billion. The tourism revenue was increased by 5.1 % to reach 41.86 billion rupees in the review period. In the same period of the previous year, the revenue was Rs 39.82 billion.
