The Musikot Municipality in Gulmi district has instituted a compulsory policy requiring the children of government officials and representatives to enroll in public schools starting from the forthcoming academic session.
The decision, announced through a recent notice by the municipality, is slated to take effect from the upcoming academic year, marking a decisive step towards addressing public grievances. Complaints have been rife regarding the preference of private institutions by government officials, representatives, and educators for their children's education, despite enjoying various governmental perks and privileges.
Mayor Jiblal Kharel of Musikot Municipality emphasized that children whose parents draw salaries from state coffers will be directed to enroll in community or government-run educational institutions beginning with the next academic session.
Currently, Musikot Municipality boasts 16 secondary level schools, eight lower secondary level institutions, and 47 primary level schools, all geared to accommodate the educational needs of the community.
The move underscores a commitment to equitable access to education and is poised to bring about tangible changes in the educational landscape of the region. Musikot Municipality isn't alone in implementing such changes; Kamalamai Municipality of Sindhuli District has also announced similar intentions. Mayor Upendra Kumar Pokharel declared that starting from the upcoming academic session, government officials, community school teachers, and public representatives in Kamalamai Municipality must enroll their children in community schools.
