​Minimum Standard and Procedure for M.Phil and PhD degree: UGC Nepal​

University Grant Commission (UGC) Nepal has published guidelines regarding "Minimum Standard and Procedure for M.Phil & PhD Degree 2073". The purpose of the guideline is to ensure quality and bring uniformity in the minimum standard for M.Phil and PhD degree awarded by universities of Nepal. These guidelines were approved by University Grants Commission upon recommendation of the University Coordination Committee.

These documents are in effect since June 04, 2017 (2074 Jeshtha 21), the day of approval by the University Grants Commission.

This guideline has fixed the eligibility for the enrollment in the M.Phil and PhD program, and also specified rules/regulation regarding Sandwich program, equivalence with research based science program like Doctor of Engineering, Doctor of Science, Doctor of Medicine etc.

According to the guidelines; No University; Institution, Deemed to be a University and College shall conduct Ph.D. Programmes through distance education mode and PhD program should at least be of 3 years or equivalent credit hours.
