The Pokhara Academy of Health Sciences in Pokhara and the Rapti Academy of Health Sciences in Dang are set to launch their MBBS programs this academic session.
This initiative became possible after the Ministry of Finance secured the necessary funding to support the MBBS programs at both institutions. Earlier, on the 27th of Sharwan, the Minister of Health and Population, Pradip Paudel, announced that the MBBS program would begin at these institutions this year as part of his priorities and plans.
Despite an initial allocation of 50 million rupees, classes were delayed due to the need for additional funds. However, with recent financial coordination between the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Finance, the necessary resources have been secured, allowing the program to move forward.
Both institutions had already developed the required infrastructure five years ago, but the lack of ministry funding prevented the program from progressing. Now, with the budget in place, the program is advancing.
Once the Medical Education Commission finalizes the number of seats based on available infrastructure, the enrollment process will commence at both academies.
"Our goal is to produce more skilled healthcare professionals to address the shortage of doctors in the country," said Minister Paudel. "We are committed to expanding opportunities for medical education at these institutions."
In addition to the MBBS program, Minister Paudel's plans include offering nursing programs in government hospitals with over 100 beds and introducing undergraduate and postgraduate courses in hospitals with over 300 beds. These initiatives will be implemented based on the advice of the Medical Education Commission, with preparations already underway.
