The Manmohan Technical University, located in Budhiganga Rural Municipality, Morang, has initiated preparations for the production of Ayurvedic medicine. The university is preparing to begin production after conducting research on medications used for the treatment of diabetes.
Speaking at a program titled “Vice-Chancellor with Journalists”, Vice-Chancellor Dr. Subash Shree Pokharel shared that research is being conducted to produce medicine using Nepali herbs, focusing on methods and procedures for treating diabetes. He stated that the university is researching ten different subjects in the current academic session.
According to Vice-Chancellor Pokharel, among the ten research topics, special priority is being given to diabetes treatment and bacteriophage-related research. He mentioned that preparations are underway to produce various Ayurvedic medicines through research conducted in the university’s laboratory.
He also said that the university is progressing with a plan to allow students who have passed ‘Skill Test’ levels 1 to 5 to study up to levels 6 to 8. Vice-Chancellor Pokharel informed that there are currently 322 students enrolled in various undergraduate and postgraduate programs at the university.
Established in 2076 B.S. by the Koshi Provincial Government, the university is the first technical university in the country. Despite this, Vice-Chancellor Pokharel expressed disappointment that the provincial government has not allocated the expected budget. According to Pokharel, the university requested a budget of NPR 37 crores for the upcoming fiscal year, but only NPR 14 crores has been allocated.
