Kathmandu, June 28: Madan Bhandari University of Science and Technology (MBUST) is proud to announce the formation of its esteemed governing body, the Board of Trustees (BOT), following the nomination of its members by the Cabinet of Ministers of the Government of Nepal on May 16, 2023.
The Board of Trustees comprises distinguished individuals from various fields, demonstrating a commitment to academic excellence and innovation. The nominated members of the BOT include:
- Mr. Bhanu Prasad Acharya, Former Auditor General
- Mr. Lochan Gyawali, Managing Director, Jun Chiyabari Tea Garden
- Prof. Nam Pyo Suh, Former President, Korean Advanced Institute of Science and Technology
- Mr. Padma Jyoti, Chairman, Jyoti Group of Companies
- Prof. Pushkar Bajracharya, Management
- Dr. Sanduk Ruit, Founder, Tilganga Eye Hospital
- Prof. Sangeeta Singh, Urban Planning
- Prof. Seeram Ramakrishna, Materials Engineering, National University of Singapore
- Prof. Sudarshan Raj Tiwari, Architecture
- Prof. Suzanne Fortier, Former Principal and Vice-Chancellor, McGill University, Canada
The BOT also includes ex-officio members who will contribute their expertise and insights. They are:

- Prof. Rajendra Dhoj Joshi, President, MBUST

During its inaugural meeting held on June 10, 2023, the BOT elected Mr. Padma Jyoti as the Chairperson. The primary responsibilities of the BOT include devising strategic plans, policies, and strategies to develop MBUST into a world-class university. Additionally, the BOT will appoint the President of the University (CEO), secure resources, and ensure adherence to the institution's ethical principles.
The groundwork for establishing MBUST began in May 2019 with the formation of the Madan Bhandari University of Science and Technology Development Board. The University officially came into existence in August 2022 following the enactment of the Madan Bhandari University of Science and Technology Act, 2079 (2022 AD).
MBUST aims to be a leading research-oriented university with a global reputation, contributing to the prosperity of Nepal by nurturing skilled technical and scientific professionals. By generating and adapting knowledge and technology to local requirements, the university aims to enhance the competitiveness of Nepal's economy.
Starting from December 1, 2023, MBUST plans to commence research-based Master's and PhD programs, specifically designed to address the real-life needs of the country. The programs will be offered at the university's campus in Chitlang, located in the Makwanpur District.
With the establishment of the Board of Trustees and its visionary members, Madan Bhandari University of Science and Technology is poised to embark on a transformative journey towards becoming a renowned educational institution that empowers Nepal through cutting-edge research and academic excellence.
