A total of 1,129 students were conferred degrees today at the second phase of the 30th Convocation Ceremony of Kathmandu University (KU), across various levels and disciplines.
The Prime Minister and Chancellor of the University, KP Sharma Oli chaired the ceremony, in the presence of the Chief Guest Dr. Brendan G. Carr, CEO of Mount Sinai Health Systems, USA, and the Minister for Education, Science, and Technology, as well as the university's Pro-Chancellor Raghuji Pant.

The breakdown of graduates by school is as follows:
- School of Arts: 163
- School of Education: 102
- School of Engineering: 68
- School of Management: 110
- School of Medical Sciences: 661
- School of Science: 25

The gradudates include:
- PhD level graduates from the faculties of Arts, Education, Engineering, Management, Medical Sciences, and Science : 14
- DM level graduates: 8
- MCh level graduates: 10
- MPhil: 69
- Postgraduate (Master’s): 513
- PGD: 4
- Undergraduate (Bachelor’s): 519
Of the total graduates, 50.93% were male and 49.07% female. There were 118 international students (10.45%) from Bhutan, India, Sri Lanka, and the Maldives.

During the ceremony, Prime Minister Oli and Dr. Carr jointly presented gold medals to the university’s outstanding students. The awardees were:
- Chancellor’s Gold Medal (Postgraduate): Daya Ram Simkhada (highest CGPA)
- Vice Chancellor’s Gold Medal (Undergraduate): Ejal Sujku (highest CGPA)
- Juddha Bahadur Shrestha Gold Medal: Krishna Babu Bhattarai
- Ran Bahadur Shah Gold Medal (MBA): Tarun Agrawal (top student)
- Ramesh Prasad Singh Gold Medal (MS Orthopedics Postgraduate): Suyash Timilsina (highest marks)
- Mahesh Nath Parajuli Gold Medal (School of Education Master’s): Yurisha Upadhyay (highest CGPA)
- Prem Raj Pant Gold Medal (Undergraduate, School of Management): Ejal Sujku (highest CGPA)
Degrees were also awarded in special programs as follows:
- One graduate with a PhD in Geomatics Engineering (School of Engineering)
- 20 in Bachelor of Professional Hospitality (School of Management)
- One in Doctor of Medicine in Pulmonary Critical Care and Sleep Medicine
- One in MSc in Community Health Nursing
- Two in MSc in Psychiatric Nursing
- Five in Master of Physiotherapy in Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy (School of Medical Sciences)
Dr. Carr expressed his honor in leading the Mount Sinai collaboration center and reaffirmed his commitment to enhancing healthcare in Nepal by advancing medical education, promoting high-quality care, and expanding research opportunities.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Achyut Wagle welcomed attendees and remarked that higher education globally, including in Nepal, stands at a critical and transformative juncture. He emphasized the need to move away from burdensome, classroom-centric education towards a more balanced approach involving labs and workshops to foster real knowledge and skills.
As of this second phase of the 30th convocation, Kathmandu University has graduated a total of 47,831 students, of which 5,660 (11.83%) are international students.
