Kathmandu University Hosts 30th Convocation Ceremony

The 30th convocation ceremony (first phase) of Kathmandu University was successfully held at its central campus in Dhulikhel under the chairmanship of Prime Minister and University Chancellor KP Sharma Oli. Addressing the ceremony, Prime Minister Oli emphasized the need for the university to design curricula that align with practical, technical, and life-oriented approaches to strengthen Nepal’s education system. He also called upon the graduates to actively contribute to national development, considering the Nepali people's aspirations and the nation's priorities.

Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Bhola Thapa, highlighted the university’s significant achievements, stating that its graduates, armed with prestigious degrees, essential skills, and a forward-thinking mindset, are advancing justice and equality in higher education. He reiterated the university’s focus on academic excellence, innovation, social impact, and building a global identity. He noted that Kathmandu University has been implementing specially designed programs that address the evolving demands of both local and international markets to achieve these goals.

This year’s convocation was especially notable as it marked the inaugural graduation of students from several newly introduced programs. These included the Master of Urban Studies, Master of Media Studies, and Master of Fine Arts from the School of Arts; Master of Indigenous Education and Development and Master of Training and Development from the School of Education; Master of Health Informatics and M.Tech in Energy Systems from the School of Engineering; and Bachelor of Science in Medical Imaging Technology and Bachelor of Science in Laboratory Medicine from the School of Medical Sciences.

During the ceremony, 1,256 students from the faculties of Arts, Education, Engineering, Law, Management, Medical Sciences, and Science were conferred degrees. Among the graduates, 641 (51.04%) were female, while 615 (48.96%) were male. Additionally, foreign students comprised 6% of the graduating class, representing nine countries: India, China, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, the United Kingdom, the United States, France, Iran, and Bhutan.
