Kathmandu Metropolitan City Directs Private Schools to Provide Scholarships

Kathmandu Metropolitan City has issued a directive instructing all private schools regarding the allocation of scholarships for the upcoming academic session within a fifteen-day timeframe.

Under the directive, the Education Department of the Metropolitan City has mandated that all schools adhere to the provisions laid out in the law regarding scholarship distribution.

According to the directive, if the student enrollment in a private school decreases by at least ten percent compared to the total enrollment, scholarships must be provided free of cost to disadvantaged groups such as the disabled, females, Dalits, and indigenous students. This directive is in accordance with Section 16(1) of the Education Act 2028.

Additionally, the Department has outlined a provision stipulated in Section 51(1) of the Kathmandu Metropolitan City Education Act, 2075. This provision requires private schools to allocate scholarships to students equivalent to at least ten percent of the total enrollment. The directive emphasizes that schools must adhere to these laws and regulations.

Schools are now tasked with submitting the distribution plans for scholarships to be provided in the upcoming academic session of 2081, as per the Act and Regulations. This directive aims to ensure equitable access to education and opportunities for students in Kathmandu Metropolitan City.
