Karnali Academy of Health Sciences to lunch Bachelor's in Midwifery

Surkhet, June 20 (RSS): The Karnali Academy of Health Sciences, Jumla has announced to begin Bachelor's in Midwifery from the beginning of the fiscal year 2075/076 BS. 

Nepal Nursing Council has written a consent note to the Academy on Monday by allowing to start the midwifery programme, Nursing Dean Sarswati Gautam said. She shared that Council has given approval for the Academy in Jumla to run the programme for 10 seats.

The Karnali Academy of Health Sciences would be the third institute to run midwifery programme after the National Academy of Medical Sciences (NAMS) and Kathmandu University (KU)
According to Dean Gautam, Council has fixed 10 seats for NAMS and Karnali Academy of Health Sciences while six seats for the KU.

Gautam was of the view that the Academy plans to commence the midwifery programme to keep the new moms mentally, physically and socially safe by proper take care and help reduce the maternal mortality rate. This programme would be highly effective and beneficial for the women and infants of the remote area like Karnali.

After getting consent note from the Council, Registrar of the Academy, Bishwaraj Kafle, said that one more brick was added to the Karnali Academy of Health Sciences following a year-long effort. "This is a historical achievement for the mountainous district. Now, we will run the programme within one and a half months," Kafle shared.
