Karkhana, a social enterprise has opened applications for गर्दै पढ्दै - A Science Grant for Deserving Classrooms, an initiative designed to bring hands-on science learning into public school classrooms across Nepal. This is designed as a continuous classroom experience across the academic year, not a one-time intervention. The opportunity is open to public schools that are committed to making science more active and meaningful for their students. Schools with engaged teachers and a willingness to consistently coordinate and implement the program are encouraged to apply. In Academic Year 2082, this grant supported 35 schools, 1,000+ students, 35 teachers, and 18 locations across Nepal, showing how consistent support can transform classroom learning.

About Karkhana

Karkhana is a social enterprise that has always believed learning should not be limited to a few schools. Alongside working with institutional schools, it has continued to look for ways to support community and low-resource schools that are equally ready to learn, but are often left out due to lack of access. For the past 13 years, Karkhana has been working in the space of education research and hands-on learning in Nepal.

In Academic Year 2082 alone, Karkhana has worked with 300+ schools, 700+ science teachers, and 42,000+ students to make learning more practical, engaging, and rooted in real experience. Its Science Program is helping students move beyond memorizing science to actually experiencing it through doing, questioning, and experimenting.

About the Science Grant

Building on this journey, the गर्दै पढ्दै Consortium has been formed under Karkhana’s initiative. It brings together organizations that share a common intent to contribute meaningfully to scientific thinking and science education in Nepal. Through this collective initiative, the consortium aims to support 200+ public and low-resourced school classrooms, especially those where teachers and students are eager to learn differently but lack access to materials, training, and consistent support.

In many classrooms today, science remains limited to textbooks, definitions, and diagrams. While students prepare for exams, they often miss the opportunity to explore and truly understand concepts. The Grant aims to shift this by making science something students actively experience in the classroom.
