The Kantipur-HISSAN education fair, now in its eighth edition, commenced on Thursday (June 16, 2023) with official approval from the Ministry of Education. However, the Kathmandu Metropolitan City has suddenly brought the event to a halt.
Around 75 educational institutions collaborated to host the fair, which had a planned duration of four days. Its primary aim was to address inquiries from parents and students about admissions to Grade 11 or Bachelor's programs. The event was anticipated to attract a participation of approximately 200,000 students and their parents.
Nevertheless, the fair came to an abrupt halt when a group led by the municipal police chief Raju Pandey intervened. Subsequently, the education department of the ministry clarified that the event was discontinued because it had been organized prior to the publication of the School Education Examinations (SEE) results
Sitaram Koirala, the head of the department, instructed officials to halt the event on the grounds that the organizers were engaging in admissions and granting scholarships to students. However, Tanka Raj Acharya, the event's convenor and vice-chair of HISSAN, countered that they were simply offering requested information to students and parents regarding courses and colleges.
