IOE Fee Dispute Settled with Comprehensive Agreement

A new arrangement has been reached to address the recent increase in fees imposed by the Institute of Engineering (IOE). This agreement was forged during a Sunday meeting that included officials from Tribhuvan University, srepresentatives from the Institute of Engineering, as well as from two student groups: the All Nepal National Free Students Union (ANNFSU) and the Free Student Union at Pulchowk.

The arrangement encompasses several important aspects, such as reducing the fees that the IOE raised, expediting the construction of campuses in specific regions, and seeking a solution to the IOE's financial issues that everyone can agree upon.

On Bhadra 13, officials from Tribhuvan University reached an agreement with students affiliated with the ruling parties. In this agreement, they decided to request the IOE to lower the fees back to their previous levels and establish a new group to reevaluate the fee structure.

It's important to note that the Institute of Engineering and the ANNFSU were not part of the group that agreed upon this arrangement. ANNFSU continued to protest, stating that they had agreed to take a loan, and the Free Students Union at Pulchowk also expressed their disagreement.

After everyone agreed on the five-point plan, both the Free Students Union at Pulchowk and ANNFSU ceased their protests. The IOE had significantly raised fees for students who pay the full amount, increasing it from 3 lakh 18 thousand to 7 lakh 77 thousand.

Although student groups initially expressed their dissatisfaction with the fee increase, the socialist student group eventually ceased their protests following the earlier agreement.
