International Vice-Chancellor's Meeting and India-Nepal Higher Education Summit Begins Today

Today (February 15) marks the commencement of the International Vice-Chancellor Conference and the India-Nepal Higher Education Summit at Kathmandu University (KU). With the objective of advancing collective development through intellectual gatherings, KU has undertaken the organization of this significant summit.

Prof. Dr. Bhola Thapa, the Vice-Chancellor of KU, emphasized the importance of such extensive intellectual programs in contributing significantly to Nepal's higher education sector, showcasing KU's leadership in the field.

In a notable event on February 14, within the Dhulikhel area, students from the Arts and Design program under Kathmandu University's Art Department unveiled a 420-foot-long and 2-foot-wide terracotta mural. This mural highlights the uniqueness of the seven departments of Kathmandu University.

Dignitaries including Dr. Narad Mani Hartamchhali, the Chancellor of the Nepal Academy of Fine Arts, were present at the unveiling ceremony.

The summit, jointly organized by the Association of Indian Universities and Kathmandu University, will witness the participation of Vice-Chancellors and educators from universities across Nepal, India, Bangladesh, Malaysia, Thailand, among others.

Keynote addresses will be delivered by Dr. GD Sharma, President of the Association of Indian Universities, and Prof. Dr. Gauri Dutt Sharma, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Science and Technology, Meghalaya.

The program will also feature speeches from Vice-Chancellors and Deputy Vice-Chancellors from various universities. The event aims to foster international cooperation, idea exchange, and network building among educational communities from different sectors, particularly within South Asia. Topics of discussion include international collaborations and partnerships, global higher education policy and regulation, and student mobility and diversity. The summit seeks to enhance cultural exchange, promote best partnership practices, and facilitate mutual collaboration in higher education.

The Association of Indian Universities holds a rich historical legacy, established in 1925 during a meeting of vice-chancellors and higher education officials of the Bombay University.

The summit provides Nepalese universities, colleges, and students with the opportunity to engage directly with professors from nearly 100 Indian universities. Through dialogue, interaction, and mutual collaboration, the summit aims to strengthen educational relations between India and Nepal and contribute to the advancement of higher education.

The event underscores the importance of international cooperation and collaboration in addressing contemporary challenges in higher education and fostering global success.
