The Higher Secondary Schools from now on cannot charge arbitrary fees from students for character certificate and admission form.

The Higher Secondary Education Board (HSEB) fixed the ceiling of fees under these headings following public complaints that many of the Higher Secondary Schools were charging as much as two thousand rupees for character certificate and one thousand rupees for the admission form for Grade 11.

A meeting of the HSEB's monitoring committee on March 18 fixed maximum fee of Rs 250 for character certificate. It also recommended that the higher secondary schools not charge admission fees in arbitrary manner.

Under Secretary at the HSEB and Member Secretary of the Monitoring Committee, Dambar Kumar Batas, said the decision would be enforced soon publishing public notice. He said any higher secondary schools flouting this decision would be penalized.
