The Ministry of Education, Science and Technology has made public the "High-Level National Education Commission Report, 2075." On Jestha 1st, Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal handed over the report to Education Minister Sumana Shrestha.
Government's Firm Commitment: Implementing the Report's Relevant and Positive Aspects, Affirms Education Minister
By a decision of the Nepal Government Council of Ministers on Ashadh 32nd, 2075, a 24-member High-Level National Education Commission was formed under the chairmanship of the then Education Minister Girirajmani Pokhrel. The commission took five months and seven days to prepare the report, organized into 31 sections and submitted to the then Prime Minister Khadga Prasad Sharma Oli on Magh 1st, 2075.
The Ministry of Education recently received the 499-page report from the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers Office. On Thursday, Education Minister Sumana Shrestha suggested making the report public on the ministry's website for the information of the general public and all stakeholders during a discussion program held in the presence of the chairman of the High-Level National Education Commission, the then Education Minister Girirajmani Pokhrel, and 16 members of the commission.
The 24-member commission chaired by Pokhrel submitted the report to the government. The members included former Education Ministers Dr. Gangalal Tuladhar and D.R. Poudel. Other members included Dr. Usha Jha, Constituent Assembly member Shyamkumar Shrestha, Prof. Dr. Min Bahadur Bishta, Prof. Dr. Vidyanath Koirala, Prof. Dr. Tankanath Sharma, Prof. Dr. Manish Pokhrel, Prof. Dr. Ram Swarth Ray, Dr. Sushil Acharya, Dr. Baburam Adhikari, Bimala Kumar Phuyal, Chakraman Bishwakarma, Prof. Dr. Sujanbabu Marhatta, Mr. Nanda Kumar Thapa Magar, Dr. Krishna Prasad Poudel, Prof. Bharati Joshi, Prof. Dr. Sharada Thapliya, Mr. Ramesh Kumar Silwal, Laxman Sharma, Dr. Sadananda Kandel, Baburam Thapa, and Khagaraj Baral (then Education Secretary). The member secretary was Baikuntha Prasad Aryal, a joint secretary of the ministry.
Reacting to the report's publication, Education Minister Sumana stated that the government would implement the report's positive and relevant aspects. "The Prime Minister seriously sought this report and provided it to the Ministry of Education. Under his leadership, the government will implement the relevant and positive recommendations of the report," she said.
