Gulmi District Introduces Incentives for Parental Involvement in Education

Madane Rural Municipality-1, Aaglung, made the statement that parents in the Gulmi district will now receive allowances for sending their children to school in an effort to boost the enrollment rate in community schools.

With the new academic session recently opened, the Ward Chair, Sushil Chand, said that the local assembly has decided to reward parents whose children consistently attend school. He said that as long as the parents lead by taking the deserving kids to the community schools, such guardians will be rewarded with financial allowances.

This decision is made in light of the growing concern about declining academic performance in community schools. Chairman Chand restated that the decision was made to help reverse this trend and repeated that it will encourage parents and pupils to pay closer attention to their child’s education. The scheme will set up a salaried payment of three thousand rupees at the end of the academic session and include all allowances to parents who will have regularly registered in school attendance registers as parents of students by the end of each academic session.

Moreover, the chairman added that poor parental attendance makes communication and collaboration between teachers, students, and parents more challenging. He reiterated that upscaling teaching and learning can only be realized through concerted efforts.

Currently, Gulmi district has seven schools under the ward's jurisdiction, including two secondary schools, four primary schools, and one early childhood development center. Implementing this initiative underscores the municipality's commitment to fostering a culture of educational excellence and parental engagement within the community.
