Government Allocates Rs 7.39 billion for Scholarship in F/Y 2081/82

The Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology has announced to provide scholarships worth Rs 7.39 billion in the current fiscal year (F/Y) 2081/82.

The scholarship will be provided to 1.5 million students from basic to higher education and technical education. According to Nilkantha Dhakal, Information Officer at the ministry, the scholarship will be provided based on residential and non-residential. Dhakal clarified, "Those students who stay in a hostel for study or who can't reach the school directly from their home are considered as resident students and they are included in Residential scholarship while those who go to school directly from their home fall under non-residential scholarship." 

Under the Residential Scholarship, 12,065 students will receive a scholarship amount of Rs 603.2 million. Dhakal shared that students with physical disabilities, freed Kamalari, marginalized communities, street children, HIV-affected, students studying in approved quotas in model schools run in public-private partnerships, and Badi community will receive a scholarship of Rs 50,000 annually under this category. Dhakal shared that this type of scholarship will be provided only after confirming that they are residential students.

Similarly, 1.54 million students will benefit from Non-residential, amounting to Rs 627 million. Dhakal shared that various types of scholarships like scholarships for students coming from Dalit community, Karnali Province, families of martyrs, conflict victims, freed Kamalari, Muslim women, and disabled students at the undergraduate/postgraduate level, are included under Non-residential scholarship. This consists of a financial aid of Rs 1,000 annually for female students studying in grade 1-5 under the Karnali province. Likewise, 552 thousand students from the Dalit community studying classes 1-5 will receive a scholarship amounting to Rs 210 million under the Scholarship for Dalit.

A scholarship worth Rs 600 million has been allocated to underprivileged students under which students in grades 11-12 studying science will receive Rs 24,000 annually, while those studying other subjects will receive Rs 18,000. Students in grades 6-10 will receive Rs 6,000 annually.

The Ministry has provided a Technical Education Scholarship worth Rs 59.4 million, benefiting students from Dalit, Muslim, and marginalized communities. They will receive a monthly living allowance of Rs 3,500, an annual transportation allowance of Rs 1,500, and a clothing allowance of Rs 2,000 annually.

Students coming from the family of martyrs, conflict victims, freed Kamalari, Muslim women, and disabled students at the undergraduate/postgraduate level will receive a yearly scholarship of Rs 24,000 under the Higher Education Scholarship.

For the economically disadvantaged students, a yearly scholarship of Rs 15,000 will be provided to those studying general subjects and Rs 21,000 will be provided to such students studying technical subjects.  Rs 5.11 billion is allocated to 10,594 students under the Medical Education Scholarship.

Dhakal shared that aspired students can approach for the scholarship by filling the scholarship form provided in the upcoming fiscal year.
