Empowering Schoolgirls: Mayor's Inclusive Program for Positive Change

Narayan Municipality has initiated the Mayor Program for school children to address practical issues faced by children and challenges observed in schools. The Municipal Head Program for schoo lchildren has been introduced with the primary objective of resolving issues encountered by children in schools, recognizing their inherent abilities, and fostering their active participation in contributing to a brighter future.

The program, initially implemented at Rainadevi Secondary School in Tatamakhu, Narayan-11, is geared towards addressing health-related concerns among schoolchildren. Mayor Loman Sharma emphasized that the program, extended to various schools, aims to identify and resolve health issues faced by students. Lal Bahadur Khadka, Chief of the Health Section at the municipality, led a team dedicated to identifying and resolving health problems faced by schoolchildren, including providing special training to female students.

During the program, students from Mahendra Secondary School in Narayan-5, Nepal National Secondary School in Narayan-3, and Sant Secondary School in Narayan-6 expressed the need for local government intervention to address the challenges they encounter. Mayor Sharma underscored the local government's responsibility to identify and resolve issues faced by ordinary citizens, stating, "There are many expectations from the local government. This program is a step forward in addressing the problems faced by schoolchildren."

The program also aimed to provide health-related information to schoolgirls. Lal Bahadur Khadka assured that the municipality would address the identified problems and mentioned plans to provide facilities such as laboratories for learning new subjects.

Most students present at the program conveyed that they were deprived of quality education, citing issues such as a lack of classrooms, toilet problems, insufficient clean drinking water, and a scarcity of laboratories for learning new things. The children urged the mayor to take interest in solving these problems. In response, Mayor Sharma assured the children that the municipality would address their concerns.

The spokesperson of the municipality, Janak Prasad Neupane, stated that the program would be conducted in 12 public schools within the municipality in the first phase. He highlighted that the municipality has initiated the Municipal Leaders with Children program at the policy level to raise awareness among children starting from the school level.
