A discussion was held today (Baisakh 04) between Minister Sumana Shrestha and Chief Election Commissioner Dinesh Kumar Thapaliya about the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology taking action against teachers, professors and employees affiliated to political parties.
After complaints were received in the ministry regarding the membership of teachers in political parties and active politics, the ministry has appealed to the commission for identification of those teachers.
As the current law prohibits teachers from engaging in politics, there has been a discussion on the execution of the law. In the discussion the Education Minister has requested the help of the Election Commission to identify the teachers engaged in politics.
"The removal of party politics from education has been the general consensus in the discussions. Now, we are discussing how to remove it. The ministry expects to receive details needed to gather evidence from the Election Commission" states Minister Shrestha
In the discussion Chief Commissioner Thapaliya says looking at the present law, passed court decisions and international practices there is no problem in taking actions against teachers and employees associated with political parties. "In the past, the Election Commission has already decided. The Election Commission will support the implementation of the laws." states Chief Commissioner Thapaliya
