On the 20th day of the ongoing teachers' protest demanding the enactment of the School Education Bill, Education Minister Bidhya Bhattarai has resigned. Despite multiple rounds of dialogue between the Nepal Teachers’ Federation and the Ministry of Education, no agreement had been reached, contributing to the minister's decision to step down.
In her resignation letter, Bhattarai cited health reasons for her departure. She submitted the letter to Prime Minister KP Oli at his official residence shortly before a scheduled cabinet meeting, where crucial decisions regarding the teachers’ demands were expected.
According to the Prime Minister’s Secretariat, the cabinet meeting is currently underway and is expected to address the pressing concerns raised by the protesting teachers.
Bidhya Bhattarai was appointed as the Minister of Education, Science, and Technology on Ashadh 31, 2081.
