Education Minister Leads Talks for Nationwide Education Reform

Minister of Education, Science, and Technology, Sumana Shrestha, engaged in discussions with education ministries from all provinces in a move towards educational reform. The meetings aimed to address various issues plaguing the education sector and to devise collaborative strategies for improvement.

The Education Minister's agenda emphasized cooperation with governments at all levels to prioritize educational reforms. As part of this initiative, representatives from seven ministries were involved in the discussions, facilitated by Education Secretary, Suresh Adhikari.

During the Inter-Provincial Education Interaction held on Chaitra 06 at 1 p.m., Minister Shrestha underscored the importance of coordinated efforts with provincial governments. Key topics discussed included the distribution of resources for the new academic session, such as enrollment, textbooks, scholarships, and regulation of institutional school fees.

Minister Shrestha expressed a commitment to align provincial policies with federal government programs, highlighting the importance of incorporating suggestions from provinces and municipalities.

Addressing the gathering, Minister of Social Development of Province 5, Rajendra Karki, emphasized the necessity for the Federal Education Ministry to formulate unified policies due to resource constraints at the local level.

He stressed the need for a shift towards a new educational model, citing the challenges faced in the past despite significant investments in free education initiatives.

Present at the event were Secretaries from various provincial ministries, including Gandaki, Lumbini, Sudurpashchim, Madhesh, and Karnali. Provincial officials reiterated their commitment to actively contribute to educational reforms and to coordinate closely with the Federal Ministry of Education.

The discussions also reflected the proactive approach of metropolitan municipalities, as six mayors and deputy mayors had previously sought suggestions from the Education Minister regarding educational improvements and coordination.

In response, Minister Shrestha assured ongoing collaboration with village and urban municipalities to develop a comprehensive action plan for educational advancement in the coming phases.
