The first 'Prof. Dr. Chhabi Lal Gajurel Chemistry Award' has been awarded to Dr. Khagaraj Sharma. It was awarded on the occasion of the 56th Foundation Day of the Central Department of Chemistry, Tribhuvan University.
Dr. Sharma was awarded in recognition of his contribution based on the chemistry of the medicinal plants for the last 23 years. A total of six people had applied to the selection committee for the award.
The selection committee has decided to give the award to Dr. Sharma based on the contribution and research of the applicants, said Prof Dr. Ram Chandra Basnet, chairman of the award evaluation committee. "Sharma's research is based on the chemistry of medicinal plants," he said. "Research on organic chemistry based on the chemistry of medicinal plants has been selected for the award over research in other disciplines."
Professor Gajurel established a fund for the award in 2076 BS to recognize the contribution of professors of chemistry. The award is also endorsed by the executive council of Tribhuvan University.
Prof. Dr. Shivlal Bhusal, Rector of Tribhuvan University said that the award will be given on the same day as the establishment of the Central Department of Chemistry next year. Similarly, students Vivek Raj Bhattarai, Shrishti Shrestha and Rasna Maharjan who scored excellent marks in the masters level program were awarded.
