Dr. Devendra Bahadur Khatri has been appointed as the Vice-Chairman of the Medical Education Commission.
The appointment was made by Prime Minister and Commission Chairperson Balendra Shah. Following the appointment, Dr. Khatri took the oath of office before Minister for Education, Science and Technology and Commission Co-Chairperson Sasmit Pokhrel.
Dr. Khatri is a distinguished medical academic and professor at the Nepal Army Institute of Health Sciences (NAIHS). Over the course of his career, he has held several key leadership positions, including Executive Director of the institute and Technical Chief of the Nepal Army, making significant contributions to medical education and military healthcare in Nepal.
The position of Vice-Chairman had remained vacant after the government removed the then Vice-Chairman, Anjani Kumar Jha, through an ordinance. During the interim period, former Vice-Chairman Shree Krishna Giri was entrusted with the responsibilities of Acting Vice-Chairman.
Meanwhile, four director-level positions in the Medical Education Commission also remain vacant. As per the Commission's provisions, the Prime Minister, in his capacity as Chairperson, appoints the directors based on the recommendation of the Vice-Chairman.
