Community Schools Initiating Skill Development for Students

Chandeswari Basic School in Amdanda, Aanbookhaireni Rural Municipality-4 of Tanahun has initiated a program to enhance students' practical skills. As part of the study and earn initiative, the school has engaged students in hands-on activities to develop their skills.

Principal Kuber Dhakal stated that following the policies and programs of the current financial year, the school has established a nursery for Lahare crops, and the sale of the produce has commenced. Around 80 students have gained technical knowledge in the nursery management of wave crops, and the sale began after the successful production of root plants.

During the first phase, 400 root plants were taken to the second Aanbookhaireni festival and were successfully sold. Principal Dhakal mentioned, "With active participation from students, teachers, and parents, we cultivated root plants as part of the study and earn program, aiming to promote wave crops according to the current season. The majority of the 400 root plants produced have been sold."

The Aanbookhaireni festival proved to be beneficial for the sale of Lahare crops, and the rural municipality facilitated the marketing of root plants. In Baisakh, 2080, students from the school initiated the cultivation of ginger and black turmeric on two plots of land. Principal Dhakal emphasized, "This program not only imparts practical skills but also enhances academic knowledge for the students."

Shukra Chuman, the chairman of the rural municipality, shared that the municipality has introduced the study and earn program in various schools during the current fiscal year to integrate skill development with education. Programs like painting, marigold flower farming, and poultry farming have been initiated at Kanyadevi Secondary School.

Chuman expressed, "With a strong commitment to making students self-reliant, we aim to connect education with skills, skills with labor, labor with production, and production with the market. The main objective is to produce skilled and self-reliant citizens. The rural municipality is prepared to extend this program to other schools based on their demands and needs."
