Commission determines fees for 'MBBS', 'BDS' programmes

Kathmandu, Oct 18 (RSS): The Medical Education Commission has fixed the fess structure for the 'MBBS' and 'BDS' programmes, deciding to take action against anyone violating the provision. 

As per the fee structure approved by the Commission, Rs 4,023,250 per student has been fixed for the 'MBBS' course inside the Kathmandu Valley and Rs 4,436,025 for outside the Valley. 

Similarly, towards the 'BDS' programme, equal fee Rs 2,019,580 has been approved inside and outside the Valley. The fees were fixed being based on the inflation of Nepal Rastra Bank for the fiscal year 2075-76 BS. 

The Commission drew the attention of the concerned authorities on implementation of the Act which states that one-third of the fees for 'MBBS' and 'BDS' programmes should be charged in the first academic year, and the rest in the annual installment. 

Fees for 'MBBS' programme have been set at Rs 1,341,085 for each student in the Kathmandu Valley, which is tantamount to one-third of the total fees for the first year, and Rs 1,478,675 outside the Valley. Likewise, the fees for 'BDS' programme have been fixed at Rs 673,194 for each student. The Commission has asked respective universities to make arrangements to send the fees deposited in the universities to the colleges offering the programmes. 

The meeting has also reminded that the admission fee, according to the Medical Education Act, include lab charge, library fee, community training and exam fees. 

The Commission also warned of stern action if the private medical colleges charged extra from students.The meeting of the Commission held on Thursday and Friday has urged the concerned authority to fix a revised admission fee for medical studies and ask the private medical colleges to implement the new fee structure.
