British Council Celebrates Nepali Winners for IELTS Prize 2023

The British Council has announced the winners of the prestigious IELTS Prize for 2023, a global initiative supporting aspiring students pursuing higher education. This year's competition witnessed remarkable success stories from IELTS test-takers across Asia, including three outstanding winners from Nepal.

The IELTS Prize, an annual competition, aims to empower IELTS test-takers by offering financial assistance of up to £5,000 (NPR 840,000) towards their university tuition fees at English-speaking universities worldwide. The 2023 edition was open to participants from China, Japan, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Korea, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, Vietnam, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Nepal, and Sri Lanka.

The distinguished winners in Nepal for the British Council IELTS Prize 2023 are:

  1. Riju Adhikari - Grand Prize Winner, receiving GBP 5,000 (NPR 840,000 approx.)
  2. Ujwal Bhetwal - Second Prize Winner, awarded GBP 2,000 (NPR 336,000 approx.)
  3. Rishika Shah - Third Prize Winner, granted GBP 1,000 (NPR 168,000 approx.)

In addition to the main prizes, the British Council also conducted the IELTS उपहार Campaign for test-takers who registered between September 1 and November 30, 2023. Lucky winners were selected through a draw, with weekly prizes including JBL Charge 5, monthly winners securing an Apple Mac Air, and two fortunate individuals winning a one-way Qatar Airways ticket to a destination of their choice.

Shahida MacDougall, Country Director of the British Council Nepal, congratulated the winners, stating, "We've been present in Nepal for over six decades, supporting education reforms and creating opportunities for young Nepalis. I hope the IELTS Prize helps you fulfill your dreams and accomplish your academic goals."
